Although many corporate blogs have a generic “face”, smaller sites have long recognized the power of personality. With the steady rise Social Networks over the last few years, many people are realizing the value of Personal Branding and formerly nameless company news releases and posts are suddenly very interested in developing a “voice” that visitors and potential customers can identify with and connect to.
Sam Devol (with the help of John BouAnton) apparently “got this” earlier on, when he created the About Me widget. This widget allows you to insert a mini-profile into the sidebar (or any suitable widget-ready area) of a theme and version of WordPress that supports widgets.
It eliminates the need to try to shoe horn html/css into a generic text widget and instead relies on the basic visual editors like those you find in the Post/Page editor for the core WordPress engine.
My first thought was how to adapt this to have multiple About Me instances combined with some context sensitive code or plugin. Poof, instant author widgets for “columns” on sites with multiple contributors.

I'm the front-man of It's WordPress. I come from a diverse array of backgrounds, enjoying the opportunity to expand my knowledge base and skill set by re-inventing myself. I enjoy environments that focus on emerging information, technology and concepts. I put on the technical hat in my early 20s and never really looked back. I'm love technology and the internet, as well as the outdoors and avidly hike, kayak and camp every chance I get.
